Changes in fashion are always happening, but the most interesting ones might just be the collaborations. Just in time for spring, Stella McCartney partnered with Neiman Marcus for an exclusive experience showing the brand’s spring 2023 collection. Constructed and perceived as an entirely new fashion experience, the customers at Neiman Marcus were first-hand witnesses to the new insights on how sustainably and ethically-sourced fashion are an essential part of the industry and our world as a whole. Included in this presentation was the way that the retailer has worked towards fully eliminating fur products. This unique collaboration came two days after the designer received her Commander of the British Empire (CBE) honor from His Majesty King Charles III at Windsor Castle for her services to fashion and sustainability.

The new spring 2023 Stella McCartney collection is based on the theme of rewilding and rechilding, inspiring the playful side of self-expression as well as the natural process of growth, revitalization, and reintroduction of the extirpated species. The collection is to say at least inspiring, mood-lifting and colorful, with the inclusion of botanical prints hand drawn by the designer herself in her London atelier. These prints mainly depict flora and fauna that are native to England. Moreover, they are either endangered or reintroduced to the environment, which perfectly shows the basis of the fashion theme of the new collection.

The collection is made of 85% responsible materials, which makes this collection the most sustainable one ever in the history of the brand. It includes fabrics and ingredients such as forest-friendly viscose, GOTS-certified organic cotton, denim made from textile waste, plant-based materials and more. The collection, as well as the brand, stands against animal testing which means there is no animal leather, feathers or fur in the designs.

We feel like our choices won’t have a meaningful impact, and I really don’t believe that. The fact we are all here today, and congratulations [Neiman Marcus] on giving up fur, we’re fighting for sustainability and a better future.

The partnership comes perfectly aligned with the retailer’s steps that were first taken in 2021 to remove fur from its merchandise. The company has now fully exited fur and is completely reoriented towards increasing revenue from sustainable and ethical products.
