At the World Economic Forum in Davos in December of 2021, Corporate Knights unveiled its list of the world’s most sustainable companies for the year. Interestingly enough, among several energy and consumer product companies, one corporation stands out- Kering. The luxury fashion house has made its way onto ‘world’s most sustainable companies’ lists for several years, steadily rising in the ranks. Last year the company was 27th on the list jumping to 7th place for 2021. Despite fashion’s many pitfalls when it comes to treating the environment with respect, Kering has steadily managed to clean up its act. So, what makes this fashion company so sustainable and how are they redesigning luxury with a conscience?

With brands like Gucci and Balenciaga under its umbrella, Kering is a leader in the luxury fashion landscape. And, the 38,00 employees worldwide and people impacted through the company’s chain of suppliers, manufacturers and producers, demonstrate the enormity of their impact. One of the reasons that Kering has consistently landed on the lists of the world’s most sustainable companies is that they evaluate and set goals to improve their impact. It’s important that brands consistently evaluate the various stages of their production cycle and take responsibility for the negative aspects while evaluating the ideal processes to improve it in the future. This is how companies can truly become sustainable.
