NY Fashion Week 2024 has come and gone with a dazzling end. Beyonce’s surprise arrival in Bushwick! Mob wife manicures. Tom Browne closed out the week with a hair-raising show that would have made Edgar Allen Poe proud. Now that the week is over and the world has gotten its fill of the best-of-the-best of NY Fashion it’s time to recount some of the biggest trends that hit the catwalks for the Autumn Winter 2024 shows.
In New York, designers offered up a nostalgic palette this season with classic shapes and styles that evoked the glamour of Truman Capote’s Swans. Handkerchiefs and voluminous blouses were seen aplenty and amongst the furs were scene-stealing dresses that gently floated down the catwalk. Many of these pieces are redesigned ladylike staples that anyone can fit into a modern wardrobe. For those of us who love a timeless capsule wardrobe, these are refreshing trends that we can add to our closets now instead of waiting for Fall 2024 to begin.
Metallic Leather

KZ_K Pirelli Pleat Dress
$1895
From the Matrix-esque leather separates that opened up Khaite’s show to Gabriela Hearst’s strapless leather ballgown, designers leaned into the metallic trend as a head-to-toe look. Wear this trend now with brands like KZ_K Studio NYC, who only source leather that is the byproduct of the food industry and use the same tannery as Chanel. If your wardrobe is strictly vegan, embrace a head-to-toe metallic look or a metallic clutch made from apple leather.
Neck Scarves

Sergio Hudson FW24
Ladylike, delicate, and dramatic, the neck scarf was a popular adornment in place of jewels on the runways, from Sergio Hudson’s metallic dresses evoking 70s glamour to Laquan Smith’s blouses where the ties were sometimes bigger than the top itself. Add a silk, linen, cotton, or Tencel blouse to your wardrobe. These fabrics are natural and plant-based alternatives to plastic-based polyester, while still offering a luxurious flow.
Chocolate Dreams

Alejandra Alonso Rojas FW24
Monochromatic outfits are said to create a sense of continuity, thus making you look taller. Designers took this heart, especially when it came to sumptuous chocolate looks. To keep the look from feeling boring, play with different shades of hue and textures à la Alejandra Alonso Rojas‘s look featuring a chunky cable cardigan with a silky midi skirt.
