In an era where sustainability and fashion go hand in hand, Puma, the renowned sportswear giant, has joined forces with LemLem, “the first international brand made in Africa”, with a core mission of inspiring economic growth in the region and preserving the local art of weaving., to create a capsule collection of 14 key pieces. Each of the athleisure wear pieces are made with a minimum of 30% recycled materials and are handmade by local artisans in Ethiopia. It’s a a testament to Puma’s commitment to taking stronger sustainable initiatives while promoting LemLem’s vision of promoting ethical clothing practices.
This isn’t the first collaboration between a sportswear giant and a sustainable company. Adidas made a splash with their Parley for the Oceans trainers made from plastic from ocean cleanups. Last year Crocs announced a collaboration with DOW Inc. to launch a collection of bio-based shoes. This collaboration will feature head-to-toe designs in innovative materials that promise to be recycled, upcycled, and better for the environment than their traditional counterparts.
With Puma’s reputation for high-performance fabrics and LemLem’s dedication to uplifting the traditional art of Ethiopian weavers, this collaboration could inspire more behemoth brands to rethink their impact and push for better materials and production standards that empower communities.

The Vision Behind the Collaboration
Liya Kebede, the supermodel and founder of LemLem, shared her thoughts on this collaboration in a press statement. She emphasized that the collection is for women who want something different, and who want to move away from their comfort zone and explore color and shapes. It is a collection for women who want to embrace their femininity and believe that workout clothes don’t need to be boring.
LemLem, known for its ethical practices and dedication to empowering local artisans in Africa, brings its expertise in creating handcrafted pieces using traditional techniques. Puma brings its expertise in high-performance materials and innovative design. The result is a collection featuring original artwork that benefits the communities that make the clothing and innovative materials that will offer the same performance you’d expect from a global athleisure wear brand.
